Mare fan Fryslân is truly the pinnacle of luxury when it comes to sailing trips in the Netherlands. Below deck, both your private rooms and common areas are incredibly spacious and comfortable. During your sailing cruise you can enjoy the wonderful Dutch landscapes while sailing, cycling, walking or rowing.
There is plenty of space on deck. The steering and an outside bar are both located on the aft deck (campaign deck). You can laze around here and enjoy the surroundings and let the wind blow through your hair. On the middle deck you can relax in the seating area. The jacuzzi is located on the sun deck.
The luxurious Mare fan Fryslân is a perfect location for a day trip or a (multi-day) sailing holiday, team building, a company outing or with your business associates, an anniversary, a weekend trip with family or friends or a wedding. Many a couple have gotten married on board the Mare fan Fryslân.
From the beginning of April to the end of September the ship is used for Sail & Bike sailing cruises.
Sailing the Mare fan Fryslân
On board you'll have everything you want. Your sailing trip aboard the Mare of Fryslân is a real sailing cruise adventure. You can put together your ideal journey yourself, so if you like cycling or walking during the day, we can adjust the route accordingly.
Port of departure is generally Enkhuizen. The Wadden Sea is a familiar area for ship and skipper. The Wadden islands of Texel, Vlieland and Terschelling can be reached within a day in suitable conditions. But this applies to many destinations. Whether it's Amsterdam or Harlingen, these ports can all be reached within a day of sailing, weather permitting.
Other ports of departure are possible in consultation.
Despite the fact that both sails and sideboards can be controlled electronically, the ship is mainly operated manually. That means to do for the entire group! The sailor will divide the guests into groups and give each group their own task on deck. The group must communicate well with each other, otherwise the ship will not move in the right direction and it will sail off course.

The crew of the Mare fan Fryslân
On board the Mare fan Fryslân you will be welcomed by the owners Joris de Wit and Rinske van Huizen and their children Peike and Mirle. Together with the crew, they ensure that you have everything you want on board. Rinske is the driving force behind the ins and outs of the deck. You can find Joris either on the campaign deck at the helm or on the water with a surfboard. He is always up for a conversation. But he also loves other water sports such as windsurfing and kite surfing.
The sailor on board is Hielke, also an enthusiastic kite surfer.
Layout
Via the central entrance in the deck house you enter the cosy bar and a seating area. From the bar you have a beautiful view of the surroundings through the large windows. Via the stairs you'll enter the saloon and the kitchen in the stern. The saloon has a nautical appearance due to the lacquered floor and tables. Some of the tables can be moved, creating a multifunctional space for a presentation, management training, wedding or extensive buffet. The Mare fan Fryslân is the perfect location for every festive occasion!
The catering kitchen is fully equipped with a stove, oven, combi steamer and dishwasher. You can prepare your meals here yourself. However, you can relax on board and rest assured that everything has been taken care of by using the professional chef who is almost always on board during the season.
A staircase leads to the comfortable sleeping areas. Here you will find 13 rooms with two separate box-spring beds, which can also be placed in a double setting. In addition, each room has a folding bed, creating triple rooms. There is also one single room, which can be expanded with a folding bed. All beds have a duvet and full bedding. The cabins all have their own bathroom with shower, toilet and sink. The cabin on the port side in the front is the so-called bridal suite. This cabin has a cosy seating area and a flat screen TV.

History of the Mare fan Fryslân
Just like its sister ship 't Wapen fan Fryslân, the Mare fan Fryslân is built for freight transport. In 1962 the ship was put into service as Neptunia, a Kempenaar. The ship was built at the Harlingen shipyard. In the early years, the Neptunia mainly sailed for Akzo in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. The Neptunia was sold in 1987 and renamed Fortuna. In 2006 the ship was sold again and converted into a 3-mast schooner at the Talsma shipyard in Osingahuizen and renamed Mare fan Fryslân.
